Victoria Legal Aid Handbook for Lawyers

Family law fee ceiling help

An applicant seeking an extension of assistance for funding above the fee ceiling must address Guideline 17.3 of the VLA Handbook for lawyers. The factors in 17.3 are set out to enable Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) to determine whether further funding is warranted.

For further assistance please refer to Guideline 17 – family law costs management in the VLA Handbook for lawyers.

Practitioners on the Section 29A Family Law Panel may address the guidelines by:

  • using the text box provided on the data capture form
  • sending separate representations (eg. a word letter, other documentation) by attaching them using the 'Submit Correspondence' facility on the practitioner’s Home Page
    or
  • do both.

Practitioners who do not self-assess may address the guidelines by:

  • using the text box provided on the data capture form
  • attaching representations via the annexure button, which can be accessed just prior to the final submission processor
    or
  • do both.
