Table N – Lump sum fees for coronial inquests

Table N sets out the lump sum fees Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) will pay for a coronial inquest (civil).

The lump sum preparation fee covers the work involved in:
  • taking instructions
  • preparing and reading documents


(10 hours $168 per hour)

Appearance first day $1202 $1202
Appearance at second and subsequent days of hearing $1084 $1084
Appearance at mention or directions hearing $186 $186
Judgement on separate day $299 $299

*Additional preparation fees for counsel and solicitor will be assessed on a case-by- case basis in accordance with the principles applying to Payment of preparation fees to counsel and solicitor.

**Where counsel is required to prepare additional documents (e.g. submissions on evidence additional fees payable at the hourly rate may be allowed.)
