Guideline 6 – equal opportunity or discrimination cases

Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) may make a grant of legal assistance to a person for an equal opportunity or discrimination case if the is a strong prospect that there will be a benefit for the person making the application.

Documentary Requirements

Applications under this guideline can only be submitted via the standard grants assessment process. The allocation of work guideline is also applicable to this guideline.

Lawyers seeking a grant of legal assistance should submit an application via ATLAS for assessment, including all of the following documents:

  • relevant proof of means
  • documentation/legal opinion that there is a strong prospect that there will be a benefit for the person making the application
  • the matter must meet the State reasonableness test.
