Introduction
If people apply to Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) for a grant of legal assistance, they may provide personal, sensitive and/or health information to VLA about themselves and the legal matters in which they are involved.
VLA handles and protects all personal information it receives in accordance with:
- the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014
- the Health Records Act 2001
- the Privacy Act 1988
- the regulations and principles made under those Acts, of which the Information Privacy Principles (contained in Schedule 1 of the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014) and Health Privacy Principles (contained in Schedule 1 of the Health Records Act 2001) are the most significant.
